KK Six Pack 12.9

Out of a growing pool of 50+ songs the boss handed me this week, here are the six that stood out and made me wanna dig deeper. Most of these are new to me, so don’t expect deep dives—just gut reactions from first listens. Crank ‘em up and let me know what you think—or drop your own Sixpack in the comments. Oh, and if you’re digging these, the song titles are Amazon links. Your clicks help support us, the bands and keep the music flowing! 🤘🍻

Hot For Crime – “Handsome

Love the lyrics, the vocal style, and the way the lines are phrased—it’s like the guy’s telling us a story while also yelling at himself. It’s funny, it’s engaging, and it works. Bonus points for dropping “John Belushi” in the lyrics. That’s an instant win with the growing Tune Up crowd here. We get it, we like it.

Lucky Monkey – “Love To Pretend”

First off, band name alone—love it already. Then they hit you with this killer opening riff that drives the whole way through. Like Hot For Crime, the lyrics, vocal style, and phrasing totally draw me in. It’s one of those songs where you catch yourself chair-dancing at work—or wherever you happen to be standing, sitting, or rocking out.

Myles Kennedy – “The Art Of Letting Go”

Full disclosure: I’m a huge fan of Myles’ voice, and his work with Slash and the Conspirators always lands right for me. I’ve dipped into Alter Bridge, but they haven’t hit me quite the same way— not a dislike at all, just a preference. This track, though, is classic Myles: emotional, heartfelt, and delivered with that unmistakable voice.

Here’s the thing about Myles’ singing—kind of like pancakes. I love pancakes, but sometimes, one too many can feel like too much. His voice is so rich and distinctive that, occasionally, it can feel overwhelming. But on his new album, he balances everything out beautifully with variety and well-thought-out track placement. This song is a standout, and the whole album deserves a listen and one you won’t want to let go.

Tremonti – “The End Will Show Us How”

Two Alter Bridge guys on this week’s list? Guess it’s time for me to binge some AB. Mark Tremonti is someone I know from Creed (of course) and as a personality, but I haven’t really dug into his solo work—but this album just may be the start of doing so. This track put him back on my radar, and it fits perfectly in this week’s Sixpack. It’s got emotion, a great vibe, and there’s this guitar tone echoing in the background that’s so damn cool. Oh, and let’s not forget: the man can sing Sinatra, so you know his voice is up there. Funny how Mark (the guitar phenom) wants more recognition as a singer, while Myles (the vocal phenom) wants more for his guitar work. They both deserve it.

Rattlesnake Suitcase – “Love Ain’t Free”

Phoenix, AZ repping with this one! And I’m guessing Guns ‘N Roses fans? This song made me wanna learn the lyrics on the spot so I could sing along—it’s that kind of track. Starts off with a fun, gritty vibe and just gets stronger. Love the way the lyrics are delivered, but here’s the thing: I don’t know the singer’s name or the rest of the band. Why? Because they didn’t fill in the damn boxes. Sorry, guys, I have to take points off and others on this list guilty too.

Pearl – “FIGHT

Pearl Aday. Daughter of Meatloaf. Wife of Scott Ian. None of that really matters, because this is her song, and she absolutely owns it. What a voice! “FIGHT” has this great groove, a touch of “take me to church” organ (always a win for me), and a payoff at the end that seals the deal. Add this to your playlist this week—and keep it there.
