Making the Cut: KK’s Weekly Playlist Challenge

Alright, Six Packers, let’s talk shop. Every week, the boss hands me a list of 10–15 songs as my “homework.” That’s right, homework. I know, I know—sounds like the dream gig, right? But let me tell you, picking just six songs out of that list is no walk in the park. And the boss? Yeah, they’ve got some solid taste, but I don’t let them off easy.

Here’s the thing: timing is everything. You know what I’m talking about—when you hear a song, what’s going on that day, how you’re feeling. Some songs slap you across the face from the first note, while others—what I like to call “slow burners”—creep up on you after a few listens. Any one of these songs could’ve made it into one of my Six Packs. Of course, I’m not gonna love everything. But the ones I choose each week? At the time I was doing my homework, those six had me hooked. And when I share them with you, I’m not just tossing them out there for fun—I’m asking you to really listen. Dive in. Let me know what hits and what misses.

And some of these bands? They’ve made my Six Packs in the past. Others might still be waiting for their moment. That’s where you come in. Maybe there’s a track on here you think I need to give another shot, or a band you love that I’ve somehow overlooked. Go ahead, make your case!

Here’s the thing, too: some bands or songs on my list are no-brainers for a Six Pack. But when that happens, I might focus on a lesser-known tune or give a shot to a band that hasn’t quite hooked me with this single. And speaking of singles—maybe the song on this list isn’t even the one you’d have led me to if you were handing me my homework. See what I mean? So many variables! But hey, I’m not telling you rock fans anything you don’t already know.

Let’s not stop at a Six Pack. Go wild—craft your own 12 Pack or a whole damn case. Below, I’ve included the list of songs the boss threw at me this week. What would you pick? Which ones would you push to the top?

Now’s your chance to step up. Timing, taste, and mood—it’s all part of the game. Let’s hear your Six Packs, your cases, or whatever brilliant playlists you come up with. You’ve got the songs. Don’t keep me waiting.

Let’s keep the music loud,
KK
