Background

Kevin McElroy has been a key player in building and shaping TUNE UP. With years of experience leading creative teams and guiding brand development, Kevin brings a practical blend of strategy, creativity, and teamwork to everything he does. As General Manager for both TUNE UP Magazine and WTYU.rocks, as well as the Creative Director of the TUNE UP Store, he works alongside his team to deliver content and experiences that resonate with hard rock fans.

A South Jersey native, Kevin was born on the first day of Woodstock in 1969, setting the stage for his lifelong connection to Classic Rock. His career in marketing and advertising spans over three decades, including his leadership role at McElroy Creative Media—the creative engine behind TUNE UP and WTYU.rocks. Kevin’s agency is responsible for the brand’s visual identity, designs in the TUNE UP Store, and all the art and design elements seen across their digital platforms. His extensive experience in creative production and brand strategy informs every aspect of the TUNE UP experience.

Kevin’s radio journey began in 2009 on a small AM station in South Jersey, where he and his co-host, Jim Adolf, launched a heavy metal and hard rock show to fill a gap in the market. For Kevin, it wasn’t just about the music; it was about keeping this genre alive for listeners. Realizing that most of the audience was tuning in online, Kevin transitioned into internet radio, launching PhillyRockRadio.com in February 2012 to provide a platform for both classic and new hard rock music.

Kevin’s goal for Philly Rock Radio was to mix the music he grew up on with new material from the same artists and to give a space for the many local and global bands still creating great music. As word spread, it became clear that there was a need for a platform where talented local and lesser-known bands could gain exposure. Philly Rock Radio became that platform, offering listeners a blend of familiar and fresh sounds while supporting the Philadelphia local scene.

Kevin also built a roster of incredible original programming. At one point, his lineup included well-known figures like Ron Keel (Keel), Jack Russell (Great White), and Steven Adler (Guns N’ Roses). He brought both global and local talent to the airwaves, all while creating a platform for the Philadelphia local scene to thrive.

Alongside his co-host, Johnny E, Kevin promoted local acts and live shows, including performances at iconic venues like Dobbs on South Street and the Electric Factory. Over the years, Philly Rock Live (formerly The Saloon Rock Club) has featured interviews with artists like Ron Keel, Roger Earl (Foghat), Greg Hawkes (The Cars), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Dead Daisies), Doug Aldrich (The Dead Daisies, Whitesnake, Dio), Terry Ilous (XYZ, Great White), and James Kottak (Scorpions, Kingdom Come).

Now, as General Manager of WTYU.rocks and Head of Operations for both the radio station and TUNE UP Magazine, Kevin continues to collaborate with his team to create a radio station that’s more than just music — it’s an experience that reflects the spirit of discovery and passion for rock. WTYU blends the nostalgia of radio with the excitement of uncovering new music.

As the force behind McElroy Creative Media, Kevin’s agency is responsible for the creative vision and brand identity of both TUNE UP and WTYU.rocks. From designing the merchandise in the TUNE UP Store to crafting the digital experience on the website, Kevin ensures that everything reflects the unique spirit of the brand. His focus on collaboration and creativity keeps the brand fresh and engaging.

Kevin’s work at TUNE UP reflects a commitment to building a space for music, lifestyle, and community, where everyone’s contributions are valued.
