This past weekend, 10,000 Maniacs brought their 40th Anniversary Tour to a sold-out crowd at The Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA, celebrating their landmark album The Wishing Chair.

Originally released in 1985 on Elektra Records, The Wishing Chair marked the band’s first major-label release and helped cement their place in the American alternative rock scene. The evening’s setlist spanned their deep catalog, with selections from The Wishing Chair (1985), In My Tribe (1987), Blind Man’s Zoo (1989), Our Time in Eden (1992), and Love Among the Ruins (1997). Fans were also treated to beloved covers of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” and Patti Smith Group’s “Because the Night.”

Opening the night was local folk band Mango Safari, who delivered a warm and well-received performance that set the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The current Maniacs lineup includes Mary Ramsey (lead vocals, violin), Jerome Augustyniak (drums), Dennis Drew (keyboards), Steven Gustafson (bass), John Lombardo (guitar), and Benny Medina (guitar). Rather than touring full-time, the band plays just a few shows each month, intentionally clustering dates to maintain a balance between life on the road and time at home. On their website, they note, “We all cherish our home time but we still love to play for you. We’re adding shows, so either join our email list for updates or keep stopping by to check on new dates.”
