I only came to know this Swede treat of a band a few years ago, and catching up has been a blast. Thrilled they’re back with new tunes, including “Leave A Mark.” Looking forward to the full release this January. Pro tip: Play a little Name That Tune when the first few lines hit—you might be reminded of doing a certain act in the dark.
Lead singer (or should I say Lead singer?) Apostolos flexes some serious Robert Plant-like chops, while the band’s founder, guitarist Simon Hurts, showcases some phenomenal skills clearly sharpened by a solid Zep education. AND their name is LEADfeather. See where I’m going with this? You’ll love this song. Our boss here will issue them a few demerits for not “filling in the damn boxes” though.
If “Tokyo” was my first taste of this Atlanta, GA+ based band, I might not have chased more, but I fell hard for last year’s Take Back The Night album, Kimi Shelter’s writing and the band’s vibe. Starbenders are downright INTERESTING. Their songs cast a spell, weaving an atmosphere and mood that keeps me curious. While “Tokyo” didn’t enchant me quite the same way, it’s got that signature Starbenders charm that makes me eager to see where they’ll go next. The TOP is where I have them headed.
This song puts the Sweet in their Home Alabama. I love a story song with emotional musicality, and “Stonewall” delivers on every level, paying a touching tribute to veterans. Even though it isn’t about my grandfather—he wasn’t a vet—it still brings him to mind, capturing that same sentimentality and reverence. It’s a must-add to any playlist.
Band had me at their name alone. And Northern Irish too — But better that they kick ass and they do! If you’re not familiar with them, you’re in luck ’cause they have a great new album Social Hand Grenade that deserves a full review here.
The Quireboys flip the rule book—where U follows Q, it stands for Underrated. With Luke Morley’s guitar style, and Spike’s gravelly vocals, these blues-infused rockers deliver that Stonesy swagger and make you, well…Happy. Get their new album Wardour Street, it delivers.
